What my new job taught me about overcoming obstacles
I felt invigorated waking up each morning in the midst of launching One Step Closer last fall.
New opportunities to speak, write guest posts, and interact with readers made the years of writing, months of editing, and endless hours of learning and navigating the publishing world seem abundantly worth it.
After the initial buzz of the book launch wore off, it was time to look ahead. Focusing on marketing and writing more books to make the full-time author life a reality was not the least bit appealing to me—let alone financially feasible long-term.
Meanwhile, my itch to get back into the world of business had been suppressed for too long.
For years, I had been following the stock market meticulously, reading personal finance books, and imploring friends and family to get invested.
But whenever the thought to do this professionally surfaced, a hitch remained.
Would it be practical to venture into this realm vocationally, given my physical limitations?
Could I stay on top of paperwork without even being able to physically touch documents or organize files?
How would I meet with clients with my limited ability to leave the house?
Then the pandemic flipped all of our norms upside down.
With the word “Zoom” taking on an entirely new meaning and working from home becoming ubiquitous, an array of possibilities opened up for me.
At the start of 2021, I pivoted my focus to financial advisory. After a few months of studying, I completed the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination (Series 65) and joined a local investment management company
The opportunity to help clients gain confidence investing for the future in order to enjoy the people and activities that mean the most to them has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
Electronic signatures, virtual meetings, and my always dependable voice software have combined to make what not long ago seemed impossible without the use of my arms and legs into a reality.
Maybe you have an ambition that has begun to seem as if it just isn’t meant to be. The path to your dream now feels blocked by too many obstacles.
Don’t give up hope quite yet.
God has given us dreams and gifts that are unique to each of us. While our visions may not always play out exactly as we would like, we can still prepare to be ready for whatever opportunity may come our way.
